Episode 23: Giorgia Lupi - Harmonizing life and data through design
Giorgia Lupi is an inimitable creator and visionary — an information designer—redefining the meaning of and how each of us see ‘data.’
Trained as an architect in Ferrara, Italy, she went on to earn a PhD in Design at Politecnico di Milano and then relocated to New York City from Italy where she now lives.
The amount that Giorgia does is intimidating - she is a partner at the multi-disciplinary design studio, Pentagram, co-founder and design director of the data-driven design firm, Accurat, is an MIT Media Lab Director's Fellow, and is a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on New Metrics.
She is co-author of two brilliant books: Dear Data, an aspirational hand drawn data visualization book, and Observe, Collect, Draw! a personal visual journal to uncover the patterns in your life. The original set of postcards from Dear Data has been recently acquired as part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
Giorgia believes that we can bring personality to data, visualizing even the mundane details of our daily lives to transform the abstract and uncountable into something that can be seen, felt and directly reconnected to our lives - a concept that she calls ‘Data Humanism.'
In 2017 she gave a TED talk on her Humanistic approach to Data that has been viewed 1.3 Million times (and counting).
Giorgia has been a ‘dream guest’ for me since day one of Origins and it is with utter delight to welcome her to the show.
