Martin is currently the Director of Oregon State University’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Research Center, but has held positions across the educational research domain, including multiple roles at the Institute for Learning Innovation and the Director of the Board on Science Education and the Roundtable on Climate Change Education at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. He has a PhD in education from Leuphana University in Lüneburg, Germany, a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a German Diplom (equivalent of a Masters Degree) in biology.
Martin’s work has transformed the very approach to how human’s learn — being applied to many familiar settings such as museums, aquariums, on field trips, and in the classroom to name a few. His impressive body of research is a foundation for a brighter future for education and scientific literacy, and holds important implications as we as a society navigate complex subjects like environmental change and technological disruption.
